The discussion touched upon their first meeting in China back in 2014 and the subsequent support that Ethereum received from the local community in China.
During the conversation, Vitalik shared his personal journey of learning Chinese within a year, noting that his ability to communicate in Chinese had helped him connect better with Ethereum’s Chinese-speaking community. He also discussed the Ethereum Foundation’s role as an enabler rather than a leader, focusing on empowering local communities to drive adoption.
Vitalik emphasized that Ethereum’s future focus should be on decentralized finance (DeFi), Real World Assets (RWA), and decentralized social applications. He encouraged teams in China to contribute to Ethereum’s POS 2.0 (Beam Chain) research and the evolution of Ethereum’s protocol.
